Boulevard vs. Mangomint – Now the competition is heating up! These are two of the most directly comparable and best-matched software platforms we’ve tested, and we’re going to break down everything you need to know about both right now.

If you’re looking at salon software options, Boulevard and Mangomint are likely on your radar — two distinctive software solutions that have carved out their own spaces in the salon and spa industry in the past few years.

Boulevard, established in 2016, caters to an elite clientele with its sleek interface and premium feature set, making it a favorite of high-end service providers.

Since its launch in 2017, Mangomint has swiftly carved out a reputation for impeccable design and user-centric functionality, rapidly climbing to the top of user satisfaction charts.

While Boulevard entices upscale salons and spas with an aura of sophistication and an array of tools designed for the luxury market, Mangomint impresses with its razor-sharp focus on creating a seamless, intuitive experience.

Boulevard aims to match the elegance of the establishments it serves, offering a platform that feels as bespoke as the services provided by its users.

Mangomint, however, prioritizes depth and refinement in its offerings, ensuring that every feature not only serves a purpose but does so with a finesse that rivals the craftsmanship of the finest stylists, massage therapists, estheticians, barbers, and tattoo artists.

Choosing between these two is more than just a software selection – it’s a statement about your brand’s identity and operational philosophy.

Each platform comes with distinctive selling points, but what exactly sets them apart?

If I had to encapsulate the “Boulevard vs. Mangomint” debate in just a few words, I’d frame it as a clash of “Luxury vs. Ingenuity.”

Now, follow me for a look into the nuances of two platforms leading the salon business into the future.

A Double-Click on Each System

Let’s cover what these systems do and look at the pros and cons of each in the Boulevard vs. Mangomint guide.

Boulevard At a Glance

Boulevard is an up-and-coming cloud-based beauty and wellness software that offers a strong toolset of core features like appointment booking and POS, as well as advanced marketing features and two-way messaging.

It natively integrates with over a dozen apps, including Quickbooks, Instagram, Shopify, and more.

It is quite a pricey option, however, coming in at a starting price of $175 for the lowest-tier plan, which we (and Boulevard themselves) don’t recommend as it lacks some of Boulevard’s best reporting, marketing, and inventory features.

Boulevard offers a free trial, but they require a 12-month minimum contract to sign up, so make sure you are 100% sure about your choice before signing up.

Pros and Cons

  • Client data that you can actually use to boost client retention and sales
  • Can integrate with a large number of third party applications
  • Precision Scheduling tech to fill the best gaps on the calendar first
  • Well designed & easily-searchable help center
  • High price-point across all plans
  • Essentials plan lacks many of the best features Boulevard offers
  • Boulevard Professional mobile app is buggy & has low ratings on iOS & Android
  • Marketing suite can’t differentiate between bookings from emails vs other factors (you may end up paying more)

Mangomint At a Glance

Mangomint is the most modern and well-designed salon and spa software platform in the United States & Canada.

It’s the platform with the most buzz around right now that beats all competitors on user review websites.

Every little detail of this software has been designed to perfection – making it incredibly intuitive and easy to use. It also offers intelligent automations that reduces time spent managing your appointments and business operations.

Mangomint’s vision is to make salon software invisible—so smart and easy to use that it essentially disappears into your day-to-day operations. And boy, is this software a pleasure to use for both you and your clients, which is why it is now, in 2023, my #1 recommendation.

Pros and Cons

  • Modern, easy-to-use, interface
  • Smart automations that help cut down on time spent managing business operations
  • Open data ownership and no contracts (you’re not locked into anything)
  • Can integrate with any other platform that allow for integrations
  • Highest-rated customer service on the market
  • Not for solopreneurs. Only teams.
  • Higher entry-level price than most other salon & spa software
  • Only available in the United States & Canada

How Do They Compare? Strengths and Weaknesses

The rivalry between Boulevard and Mangomint is truly captivating.

Boulevard is praised for its excellent online booking capabilities and innovative Precision Scheduling technology, which optimizes online scheduling to enhance booking efficiency.

On the other side, Mangomint is clearly just as committed to providing a clean, easy-to-use interface and has taken a holistic approach to designing their app’s menus, systems, and functions to make every step of the process effortlessly clear, easy, and intuitive. Nothing feels tacked on, and no element of the setup process or day-to-day functionality feels like a chore.

Both platforms boast robust reporting features and client data management, leveraging customer data to provide valuable insights that can be harnessed for business growth and targeted marketing strategies.

However, no system is without its shortcomings.

Many Boulevard users have reported challenges with the mobile app’s performance, finding it particularly buggy, especially on Android. Staff service enablement and scheduling have also been noted as areas with room for improvement, as elements of each can be tedious.

On the flip side, Mangomint’s marketing suite is newer than Boulevard’s, and while it is well-designed, it is limited to e-blasts at the moment, although more advanced campaign functionality has been teased for 2024. Likewise, Mangomint doesn’t currently feature an analog to Boulevard’s calendar Front Desk View feature, which we noted was one of our favorite features of their desktop app.

Ultimately, the choice between Boulevard and Mangomint may come down to a salon’s priorities, whether that’s the allure of Boulevard’s user-friendly and luxurious interface or Mangomint’s emphasis on a flawlessly executed user experience.

Both of these apps are limited geographically, but Mangomint is more broadly available, serving the US and Canada, while Boulevard only offers its software in the US.

Let’s Talk Features

Boulevard’s strengths lie in its robust marketing suite, versatile reporting capabilities, and data management features, all of which help salons and spas maintain a high level of engagement with their clients.

Mangomint hones in on fine-tuning the core functionalities that are pivotal to day-to-day business activities. The platform has been crafted to streamline operations, from the sophistication of its self-checkout feature and its efficient Intelligent Waitlist to the finesse of its fully integrated Two-Way Texting feature.

Both apps have incredible online help centers full of how-tos and guides, support for memberships, packages, and gift cards, and streamlined POS and checkout support with software and hardware.

Mangomint even one-ups Boulevard at its own game when it comes to client data management, incorporating all touchpoints with each client (every email, text, picture, appointment, and transaction) into a convenient timeline that lives right in the client profile.

The divergence in approach is most apparent when considering the marketing capabilities of each platform. Boulevard incorporates a robust array of built-in marketing tools in an attempt to create a one-stop shop for your marketing efforts.

On the other hand, Mangomint takes a modular approach, allowing for effortless integration with top marketing tools alongside its own email marketing feature. This strategy ensures that users are not confined to “adequate” features but have access to the best-in-class by integrating with specialized providers.

Integrating with Other Platforms for Additional Features

When it comes to adding new tools and features, Boulevard and Mangomint offer different ways to integrate with additional platforms.

Boulevard has a good selection of integrations for popular services like Quickbooks and social media booking tools, which means you can connect Boulevard directly with several other apps you might already be using.

Boulevard earns a slight leg-up with its larger library of plug-and-play integrations but locks any other third-party integrations (which require the use of their API) behind a paywall: their most expensive Enterprise plan.

Mangomint, on the other hand, is very flexible and can create custom integrations to almost any other system you might need. This is especially useful if you have unique needs that aren’t covered by the standard set of tools available and don’t want to shell out for the most expensive plan on offer.

Boulevard vs Mangomint

Mangomint offers both custom and third-party integrations without the need to upgrade to the most expensive plan.

Pricing

When choosing between Boulevard and Mangomint, pricing plays a crucial role, as each platform offers different plans to fit varying business needs.

Mangomint’s entry-level monthly plan is slightly less expensive than Boulevard’s. At that tier, functionality is improved on the Mangomint side, with resource scheduling and check-in management features included.

While both apps are not at their full potential on the entry-level tier, we found that some basic functionality was stripped back on Boulevard’s “Essentials” plan, including multi-merchant transactions, commission tracking, and full reporting capability.

Boulevard comes in with an attractive starting price, giving businesses a point of entry that’s friendly to the budget. However, there’s a catch: the most appealing features that Boulevard touts are locked behind their more expensive packages. So, to get the full Boulevard experience, you’d have to shell out a few hundred more dollars.

Mangomint offers additional features at their higher tiers as well, but their base plan doesn’t strip out core functionalities, and even their most expensive, feature-packed plan comes in significantly cheaper than Boulevard’s.
